Welcome to Tadcaster and Rural – your community company for your community projects. We are a ‘Community Interest Company’ (CIC) which means we are a not-for-profit social enterprise. Our Directors are all volunteers and none of the monies we receive from any source to deliver projects is paid to external shareholders.
Tadcaster and Rural were established at the start of 2014 as a new not-for-profit social enterprise. We were established as a way of driving forward new projects and initiatives for Tadcaster and the surrounding villages – project ideas that come from the community and can be then delivered in and by the community.
We have a Board of Directors and employ an Executive Officer – Mr. David Gluck, who is based in our Bridge Street office.
We work with many other local groups and organisations, such as Tadcaster Town Council, to identify projects and activities of value to residents of Tadcaster and our local villages and seek funding from a wide range of bodies to deliver those projects.
In particular we aim to use our expertise and experience to develop and deliver projects commissioned by other organisations. For example, Tadcaster & Rural recently delivered a government-funded project called Our Place! which provides resources for communities like ours to look at new ways of delivering services more locally and more efficiently.
Our most important project so far, however, is that we have been in discussion with North Yorkshire County Council to take over from them full responsibility for Manor Farm on St Joseph’s Street in Tadcaster. It is currently used for a range of community activities and events such as NYCC Children’s Services and The Bridge Project which supports young adults. It is also being increasingly used to deliver adult education and learning opportunities, especially by the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association).
Our intention is to assume responsibility for Manor Farm during 2018, undertake some refurbishment and develop it into an accessible and flexible thriving hub for a wide range of community activities for the benefit of all local residents.
Information about our many other Community projects, past and present, are contained on our Projects pages.
